PROJECT Sisak ironworks, Sisak, 1948

Zagreb based construction company TEHNIKA was founded, and it quickly grew into a strong construction organization capable of building the most complex construction and industrial facilities. In 1948 Tehnika was entrusted with an assignment of building Sisak Ironworks, one of the largest projects at the time, and later with a number of others (Boris Kidrič light metal company, TPK, Prvomajska, Rade Končar).

PROJECT Public open university Zagreb, Zagreb, 1961

The construction of Sisak Ironworks, one of the largest construction projects in the former state at the time, is completed. This is followed by construction of many industrial halls which TEHNIKA entirely completed or extended. Over time, TEHNIKA took on other interesting construction projects. In the following years Zagreb rapidly developed into a modern European city, as could be seen when walking down Grada Vukovara Street, which would not be recognizable without Tehnika. Today’s appearance of this modern, mostly business-oriented street was created by the builders from Tehnika. The City Hall (1956), the International hotel (1961), POUZ (1961), residential buildings were the work of eminent Croatian architects from that period, and the construction thereof was assigned to Tehnika.

PROJECT Zagreb Fair, Zagreb, 1967

The parts of the Faculty of Forestry (1967) and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (1967), a new modern high school building at Trešnjevka and many residential facilities were built. A very special project was construction of the new Zagreb Fair in 1967, when Tehnika made an exceptional success in organization and speed of construction – Tehnika built and handed over to the Investor 41.000 m2 of exhibition space with additional facilities in only 114 days. Tehnika stepped into its third decade with 5.000 employees, applying the latest construction systems and expanding its operations to the German market. Vatroslav Lisinski concert hall (1973) was another landmark built by Tehnika. The mid 1960’s brought an increasing demand for investment in construction of agricultural facilities.

PROJECT Belupo, Koprivnica, 1983

Construction of industrial facilities remained among the key areas of Tehnika’s business operations. There followed Belupo pharmaceutical-chemical compound (1983), Nikola Tesla electrical assembly plant and many other projects. Zagreb, as a growing metropolis, demanded new facilities and functionalities which brought new construction challenges. The Crematorium at Mirogoj (1985) and Zagreb Mosque (1987) fall among the most significant projects of this time. The modern outlook of Zagreb was further accentuated by the construction of the Main Bus Terminal (1987), an infrastructure building vital to every metropolis.

PROJECT National and university library, Zagreb, 1995

The 1990s brought major social, political and economic changes. Tehnika underwent a transformation in 1991 and became a joint stock company. During this period Tehnika built Importanne shopping center (1994). The completion of the National University Library (1995), the most important building of recent Croatian architecture, represents a synthesis of the top achievements of the Croatian architecture at the turn of the millennium. There was also a significant increase of investments in industrial facilities among which the world’s first Pliva Azithromycin production factory stands out. (1997.).

PROJECT Centar Kaptol, Zagreb, 2000

Tehnika d.d. is listed on the Zagreb Stock Exchange, where its shares have been continuously listed to this day. In the field of residential construction, we have successfully adapted to the new demands of the time and the profession. We realized many significant projects such as Dub apartment complex in Malinska (2002), “Krešimir” residential complex in Branimirova Street (2003) and a residential complex in Horvaćanska (2004). Other important projects include Centar Kaptol (2000), Podravka food factory (2003), Mineral and spring water filling plant in Apatovec (2004.) and new Carlsberg Croatia brewery (2005) with a silo. We built the Tobacco factory in Kanfanar (2006), new Franck factory (2007) and the Central waste water treatment plant of the city of Zagreb (2007).

PROJECT Fran Galović high school and sports hall, Koprivnica, 2007

Tehnika built Mercator centar in Osijek and many Konzum retail centers. We proudly highlight the multiple award winning project of Fran Galović high school and sports hall in Koprivnica (2007), Zagreb puppet theatre, Modern gallery, and façade refurbishment of the Croatian Academy of Science and Arts. We built Avenue Mall shopping center (2007), Centar Zagrebačka commercial-residential center (2008), housing complex in Sopnica-Sesvete and public underground garages at Tuškanac, Kvaternik Square and Lang Square. We realized the Aurora hotel in Mali Lošinj and Monte Mulini hotel in Rovinj (2008) – the second five-star hotel in Istria. The Museum of Contemporary Art (2009) became a significant and recognizable reference of the modern Zagreb culture and architecture.

PROJECT Sky Office, Zagreb, 2013

This period was marked by the completion of the residential complex of subsidized housing in Sopnica – Sesvete (2010), construction of Sky Office (2013), Centar Zvonimir residential complex (2007-2017), the Radisson hotel in Split (2018.) and OTP bank commercial building in Split.

PROJECT Alelyckan office building, Göteborg, 2019

In 2016 Tehnika entered the Swedish market where it successfully completed a couple of significant projects. In Gothenburg we built a school in Grevegård (2017) and Alelyckan office building (2019). There followed other interesting projects such as a garage in Mölndal (2018.) and Uggleberget residential complex (2019) comprising total of 360 apartments in 16 housing buildings. We carried out works on the foundation construction of the Draken hotel, while in Fjällbo Park we built three residential buildings with 75 apartments in total. In Stockholm we worked on Karrtorp Centrum project.

PROJECT Horvaćanska residential-commercial project, Zagreb, 2024

We have recently completed the Bauhaus shopping center in Buzin (2016) and Središće shopping center (2017). Other important projects include three residential buildings in Podbrežje (2019.) and a residential-commercial building in Središće (2019). Other important projects were the reconstruction of Sv. Duh Clinical hospital with a day clinic and underground garage (2021) and a residential-commercial building in Horvaćanska street (2024).
